With her bright smile and sunny spirit, Lindsay Cochran's infectious optimism gives her strength to battle complications from spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). SMA is a form of Muscular Dystrophy which affects motor neurons that control voluntary muscles that are used for activities such as crawling, walking, head and neck control, swallowing, and in severe cases even smiling.
Despite her weakened body, this vivacious tween is fun-loving, fiercely independent and forever positive. Says Lindsay, "Being in a wheelchair has good things and bad things, but I try to look at the good things. One of the good things is that I love to go fast-which I can do in my wheelchair! I want people to know that I am a normal kid who just needs a little bit of extra help.” Though she cannot participate in many activities, she lives vicariously through her brother, Trenton.
Trenton treasures his little sister, and his undying devotion to her is a deep, abiding example of love in its purest form. Here, he shares his feelings for Lindsay -- and reminds us all that love is the most powerful force in the universe.
